4 Tips on Planning for The New Year

Many people think that planning for the New Year starts just before or on January 1st, but what if you got a jump start with your plan and got comfortable with any changes you may be making before January? 

 We are approaching a new year, a new decade even, so having a plan and something to start turning your dreams into reality may take a little time. Give yourself some grace as you make your plan, knowing it may change and you might fail before you succeed. 

Start Small

A big mistake people make when they are setting goals for themselves is to write a long list of things they want to achieve. Keep your list short and sweet. Write down a handful of goals but only start with focusing on one thing at a time. Once you feel comfortable and confident with your progress of goal one then move onto goal two and so on. 

Write It Down

Writing down your goals can make all the difference. Writing them down can help you visualize them and gives you something to look back at or even track them with. Write down your current goal somewhere you will see it everyday like your bathroom mirror or refridgerator door.
 

Grace Not Perfection

Remember failing is a part of life. Many people fail more than once before achieving their goal. Give yourself some grace to fail, but make sure you get right back up. So you wanted to workout everyday and miss a day? Don’t let that derail you and then you just stop all together. Pick yourself up and try again! No one is perfect and that’s the beauty of finally achieving a goal as you can see how far you have come and what you were able to overcome.

Making It Routine

If you have things you want to incorporate into your everyday life in the New Year, it's time to start making them part of your routine. If your goal is to workout daily, set a time everyday that you can get your exercise in. If you want to read more, go to bed early every night and set aside that time for reading. If you want to drink more water, set timers on your phone to remind you to drink that water, you get the point. If you want to achieve the goals you set for yourself, making them a part of your normal routine will help you achieve them.
